The Bohemian Shepherd Dog, along with the Prague Ratter, is one of the oldest Czech dog breeds. It was originally used as a guard dog and a herding dog. Today it is mainly kept as a family pet, due to its friendly and gentle nature. Ruth Fraňková has more in today’s edition of our mini-series dedicated to original Czech dog breeds.

Czech Dog Breeds

The Czech Republic has given the world several interesting dog breeds including the Czech Terrier, the Czech Spotted Dog, the Bohemian Shepard or the Prague Ratter. Although the Czech breeds were created almost exclusively for practical reasons, such as hunting or guarding livestock, the breeding process often resulted in visually appealing dogs who turned out to be intelligent and loving companions. Meet the seven Czech dog breeds in our new mini-series.
